1.
cop lights 03:36
into the night swear i'll be out in half an hour can't waste my time it's all receding now passing cop lights and a parked car with the doors open and nobody there sometimes when your thoughts hit you like a knife sometimes and i'm dreaming i'm sure there's no reason to carry on with these thoughts and these words what for i'd wait for hours until you came back to the house to feel alright there's nowhere else i could survive
2.
looking at a photograph been so long that i'd forgotten wish i knew the day it passed feeling older by the season don't know where you are can't tell you how it's gone tried to tough it out made it out somehow remember that time it's a place in your mind you can always go back i was only passing by wrapped up in the city lights see the blur and the train cars on and on staring from an overpass fields that fade and skies that last on return the world grows still viewed through scattered windows and i wonder still you can always go back
3.
slow down living in this hell i was caught out swept up in the tides and i'm drowning now wanting nothing else but to be there with no one else around left undone don't know why lose someone half-light sitting in the sun by the campsite could've been someone but i'm nowhere now living in my head until the seasons cycle back around
4.
sitting dormant on the west end line i was closer than i've ever been do you question why you waste your time living alone what's the purpose for this distant curse up at midnight thinking in reverse is it worth it all this wasted time i can't get back that i can't get back so we're hiding out tonight and i wonder what you're thinking because you feel so far away don't know how to make it right

about

the first of two small collections of songs written and recorded after yellow house. after three consecutive albums working at a certain sound i wanted to give myself space to experiment without expectations & introduce fresh ideas. on this one, i pushed myself to try some things i couldn't seem to get right in the past, while drawing from a lot of what i'd learned recording the last album. the title is from some lyrics i ended up scrapping, but the phrase stuck with me enough to attach itself to these songs.

this phase of living is a constant process of moving and leaving. moving in and out of homes, working different jobs. many of the people i'm closest with are gone much of the year. everything can feel weightless and transitory when that kind of permanence is absent. but then, i feel like that's something you look back on with intense nostalgia later in life, everything is weird that way.
